The Vasquez Family: Always Thinking Ahead
Venus, Luisa and Jose Vasquez are a family of entrepreneurs in the South Park neighborhood. In 1997 they bought Video Mar and got to work: Venus repaired the structure, Luisa developed the adjoining cafe, and young Jose brainstormed a new business opportunity: affordable internet access in their spacious shop. Today Jose is part-owner at Video Mar and helps pilot the business with his parents. “Being a family business can be our biggest challenge,” says Jose, “but it’s also our biggest asset. People know us and trust us because we’ve been in the neighborhood for years.”
